From September 18th to October 3rd the BIGPARK team has performed the second and last sampling foreseen in Cabrera Archipelago. Kike, Emma, Jorge, Adrià, Candela and Xavier spent some wonderful time diving and collecting in Cabrera.

The weather this time was favourable, much better than in 2020. Aside of a couple of days of rough sea that represented a welcome rest for the team, we could go to sea most of the time.

We collected the samples for the genetic monitoring of selected communities, and repeated the transects to quantify the abundance of invasive seaweeds in the 15 points that are being monitoring since 2004. Additionally, we quantified the abundance of herbivores (sea urchins) in these same points.

The magnificent dives in sites such as l’Imperial, Ses Rates, La Foradada… with their caves, their gorgeous communities of algae and invertebrates, and the big groupers and the schools of barracudas, will remain in our retinas.

Already looking forward to future projects that allow us to visit Cabrera again!
